Urea Test
This test measures the level of urea in the blood, which is a waste product formed during the breakdown of proteins in the body. Urea is filtered out by the kidneys and excreted in urine.
Elevated urea levels may indicate:
- Kidney Dysfunction: Impaired kidney function can reduce the ability to filter out urea.
- Dehydration: Can cause a concentration of urea in the blood.
- High-protein Diet or Increased Protein Breakdown: These factors can increase urea production.
This test is commonly used to assess kidney function and diagnose or monitor conditions such as kidney disease or dehydration.
